2008 HUD Homeless Assistance Grant Award (12/26/2007)
WASHINGTON, DC – A record number of local homeless programs across America will receive an unprecedented $1.5 billion in Continuum of Care grants announced today by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development. This historic-level funding will offer transitional and permanent supportive housing to more than 168,000 homeless individuals and families. Homeless Point in Time Survey (8/1/2007)
The Health & Human Services Department released the 2007 Portland Point in Time Survey.
The Survey was conducted on January 30th, 2007, and was again this year completed in cooperation with the Balance of the State and the Penobscot Countinuums of Care. The Survey is a count of all homeless individuals and families living in emergency shelter, on the streets, or encampments, in cars, or in places unfit for human habitation.

Portland City Council Votes to Support More Smoke-Free Housing (8/7/2006)
On Monday, July 17, the Portland City Council voted unanimously to support a resolution to reduce the number of Portland residents in multi-unit housing exposed to secondhand smoke. The resolution states that the City of Portland believes that all residents deserve to breathe clean air and live in a smoke-free environment.
